Google recently decided to get rid of its Nexus project
which you all must know about or if not let me tell you about it, Nexus was a
program started by Google in 2010 where Google partnered with different
smartphone manufacturers and made custom smartphones running the most stock
android you can get on the market with no launcher skin on top basically it was
a program to give users an amazing smooth problem free experience, these Nexus
phones were known as the best of the best among every android user some
companies that were the part of Google Nexus program were LG, Samsung, Huawei.
Since last year rumors started leaking around the internet
that this time Google is getting rid of the Nexus program and going all Google
that means they will create a smartphone by themselves with no third-party manufacturer
involved and they will use their own android layout and hardware on those
phones and after sometime it started to become a fact that it is happening and after
a lot of rumors and reports Google has finally announced its two new
smartphones called the Google Pixel and Pixel XL.
We will begin further to their hardware and software but
first let me clear the difference between the
two phones.
Difference between Pixel and Pixel XL:
Both of the models are same in-terms of design, specs and
camera but the only difference is of the display size and battery capacity obviously
you can get a hint by the name XL, the smaller version is the Pixel which
features a 5 inch HD 1920x1080 screen with 441 ppi and has 2770mAH battery
inside it and on the other hand the larger version Pixel XL features a 5.5 inch
QHD 1440x2560 screen with 536 ppi also both of the displays are protected by
Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection against scratches and cracks also it has
a bigger 3450mAH battery packed into it and there back is not removeable.
Now we will talk about the other features these smartphones
consist of
Design:
The shape of both the phones is quite similar to the iPhone
and HTC phones having curved edges similar camera placement as iPhone and also
similar type of antenna bands at the back.
Color Options:
Both the variants come in three different color schemes
uniquely named by Google called Very Black, Quite Silver and Really Blue.
Hardware:
Leaving the display and battery details aside as they are
already mentioned above I will move to other hardware specifications, both of
these smartphones are packed with a quad core Snapdragon 821 processor paired
with Adreno 530 GPU and probably Pixel and Pixel XL are the first smartphone to
have the Snapdragon 821 processor, talking about the ram both of the smartphones
feature 4 Gigs of ram. Both the phones are available in 32 and 128 GB models
and doesn’t support an external microsd card.
Camera:
Google has claimed that both of these smartphones have the
best camera ever as per DXOMark Mobile Score which is 89 on both of these
smartphones and Google has claimed that it is done by pairing a great hardware
with great software, both the Pixels are equipped with a 12.3 megapixel shooter
having 2.0 aperture and 1.55 micron pixels which will help in increasing
picture quality and fast focusing. Google also mentioned that this camera is
matched with Google camera app which will make capturing easy and have very
less to no shutter lag also the camera supports 4K video recording on both the
handsets.
Talking about front camera sensor it is an 8 megapixel
sensor having 2.4 max aperture and 1.4 micro pixel size also it supports 1080p
video recording.
Operating System:
Both the Pixel and Pixel XL runs on Android Nougat 7.1 out
of the box and they are the first phones to get Nougat 7.1 out of the box also
Google has said that both of these smartphones will receive updates much
earlier than other smartphones and the phone will get updated automatically
without asking a user to update if auto-update option is set in the settings.
Google also has implemented new Google Assistant which is much improved and
will do all daily life tasks easily than before and make it easy for the user
to interact with the device.
Other Features:
Some other features include a fast finger print sensor at
the back for better protection and has all other necessary stuff like 3.55mm
headphone jack, Fast Charging and has a USB-C type connector instead of a micro
usb port also I would like to mention that this phone is not water
resistant/proof.
Pricing and Opinion:
These smartphones are priced at a very competitive rate according
to market like the base model costs like 649$ competing with other market
giants and what I and most of the people think about design and price is that
it is not designed very well and as for the price they have a lot more options
and even cheaper than these both also some people have given their opinions not
to buy these and keep their Nexus 6P with them or if somebody has to buy a new
phone gofor the cheaper One Plus 3, Note 7, 6P or even an iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
